Hair extensions by CC Hair Designer
Have you ever wished that your hair was longer? Or that it had more volume? Perhaps you are trying to grow your hair out from a shorter cut but you want to avoid the dreaded “in-between” stage. Or maybe you are simply ready for a different style. Not everyone’s hair grows at the same rate or the same thickness, and our hair tends to thin out as we get older. Hair extensions are a great way to add length and volume to your hair, enhancing your natural hair and helping you achieve the look you want – immediately.
Add extensions while protecting your natural hair
There are multiple methods for adding extensions to your hair. As a skilled hair designer with more than 20 years of experience, Cathy Crouse of CC Hair Designer is adept in all of these application methods and can recommend the best option for you based on your natural hair and the hairstyle you have in mind.
The method used to add your hair extensions is important – hair extensions should always enhance your natural hair without damaging it in any way. There are five different application methods for hair extensions. Depending on your specific hair needs and goals, Cathy will recommend the appropriate method.
- K-Tip. Also known as keratin tip or keratin extensions, K-Tip extensions are the most discreet extensions. They are also the most lightweight option. Depending on the rate at which your hair grows, K-Tip extensions can be worn for an average of four to six months without any salon maintenance.
- I-Tip. These extensions involve the hair being placed strand-by-strand for a versatile and seamless application. While the installation process takes four to six hours, I-Tip extensions can last up to six months with proper home care and salon maintenance.
The following hair extension application methods do not require glue or heat:
- Tape-In. This hair extension installation method uses an adhesive weft tape that does not require any heat and which allows your natural hair to continue to grow easily. Tape-In hair extensions usually last four to six months with maintenance appointments at the salon for upkeep every six weeks.
- Sew-In. This method of hair extension application involves attaching a row of beads to the client’s natural hair before placing a weft on top and sewing the extensions in with thread.
- Volume Weft Installation. Ideal for coarse, overly curly, or thick hair, these extensions can be applied using a method that utilizes silicone-lined beads or small braids as a foundation. Volume weft extensions are a fast way to attain full coverage, and there is no need to use tape, glue, or heat to achieve this volume-enhancing look.
- Hand-Tied Weft. A versatile hair extension method, hand-tied weft extensions are small, hand-tied knots of hair compressed together to create a chain. Lightweight and stackable, Hand-Tied Weft extensions can even be reused because they do not require any chemicals for application or removal. These 12-inch-wide extensions feature triple-knotted ends and provide full coverage with a thin, flexible point of attachment.
The Hand-Tied Weft extension method is unique because it provides ample opportunity for the stylist to be creative with custom color combinations that can add dimension to the client’s hair. As a color specialist, Cathy especially enjoys how this extension method allows her to create the exact look her clients want.
- Clip-in Extensions. This temporary application method can be applied daily, making clip-in extensions the perfect option for clients who want to add length and / or volume to their hair without committing to a time-consuming installation process at the salon and ongoing salon maintenance.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Extensions
What is the best hair extension method for me?
Determining the right hair extensions method for you really depends on your needs. For instance, are you interested in adding length or volume to your hair? Or perhaps both? Is your hair thinning and you need some coverage? Do you have a specific hairstyle in mind that hair extensions can help you achieve? These are all questions that Cathy will ask you when you express interest in enhancing your hair with extensions. She will also explain the different methods – including the installation time and process, how long the extensions typically last, and the type of salon and at-home care required to keep your extensions looking their best. As a hair extension specialist, Cathy’s goal is to provide the extensions you want via the method that best fits your needs and lifestyle.
Can I style my hair extensions just as I would my natural hair?
Yes! Hair extensions made from natural hair can be styled using the same products and tools as you use on your own natural hair.
What is the best way to care for my hair extensions?
The proper care of your hair extensions really depends on the type of extensions and the method used to install them. Cathy will thoroughly explain how to properly care for your hair extensions at home – and schedule any maintenance appointments for extensions that require salon upkeep – based on your specific extensions and method.
How long do hair extensions usually last?
The length of time your hair extensions last is dependent upon a few factors. The first, of course, is the method used to install the extensions. K-Tip, I-Tip, Taped-In, and Sew-In hair extensions must be installed in the salon and can last for months, while clip-in extensions are temporary extensions that you can add and removed daily without the help of a stylist. Maintenance is also an important consideration, as methods such as I-Tip and Tape-In hair extensions require regular visits to the salon for upkeep. The final factor to consider is the level of at-home care required. All hair extension methods require proper at-home care in order to keep the extensions looking their best. Cathy will discuss all of these factors with you before recommending the hair extensions method that she believes will best fit your needs and lifestyle.
